Paraguay tax number (RUC): registration for foreigners
The RUC (Registro Único de Contribuyentes) is your tax number with the DNIT. Destination Paraguay helps prepare your application and provides remote follow-up after checking your circumstances and documents. You must still attend in person if the authority requires it.

Paraguay tax number: How do you get a RUC in Paraguay?
1. Check your circumstances
We review your identity, residency, address and planned activity to identify the documents and obligations relevant to your application.
2. Prepare and submit your application
Our team checks your documents and assists with DNIT registration through Marangatu. The authority may request further information or an in-person appointment.
3. Prepare for ongoing compliance
Once registration is approved, we help you locate your RUC information and understand Marangatu access, filing deadlines and the records you need to keep.
Which documents do foreign residents need?
For the usual foreign-resident registration route, prepare:
- Both sides of your valid Paraguayan Cédula (ID Card).
- A colour photo of your face holding your identity document, as required by the DNIT.
- Your contact details, tax address and information about your activity.
- If a representative acts for you, the supporting documents and authority required for your case.
Copies must be legible. The final checklist depends on your circumstances: a foreign passport alone does not automatically replace a Cédula in the standard route.

What is a RUC tax number used for?
The RUC identifies the taxpayer, their activity and their obligations with the DNIT. After registration, Marangatu is used for tax procedures and access to taxpayer information.
How does a RUC differ from a Cédula or residency?
The RUC is a tax identifier. The Cédula is a Paraguayan ID Card, while a residence card relates to immigration status. A RUC replaces neither document and does not, by itself, prove tax residency.
Can I get a RUC remotely?
We offer remote assistance after checking your eligibility and available documents. This service does not remove any requirement to attend in person if the DNIT requests it for your application.
Does the DNIT charge for RUC registration?
No. The DNIT states that RUC procedures are free. Any Destination Paraguay fee pays for a separate, private assistance service, not the administrative registration itself.
Which tax returns are required after registration?
Your obligations depend on your activity and registered taxes. They may include monthly IVA and annual IRP returns. Some returns can still be required without turnover: our accountant checks your circumstances and applicable deadlines.
How can I check my RUC?
Use official DNIT services and your Marangatu access to consult the information and certificates available to you. Never share your password through a public form.
